DOUBLE NICKELS

Doubles nickels is equal to ten cents or ten pennies or one tenth of a dollar, the speed limit on some roads which no one adheres to that is unless you have a flat tire and have to. Then there is the album "Double Nickels On A Dime" and yes there are many many others. There is one double nickel that affects me directly and that is today. Today I turn 55, a small milestone in my life and as I reflect back upon my life I feel that 55 is not old. Granted I am older and there are many things I can't or better wouldn't do from when I was younger, but those things are very few and don't affect my way of life.

Now I'm being told that I am officially a "Senior Citizen". My older brother and sister are congratulaing me. WHY? Granted there may have been times in my life where they may have thought I wouldn't have made it this far. But thanks to a great family I have made it nevertheless. I'm sorry, I am not a Senior Citizen. I do anything I can to not be a Senior Citizen. Yes I am vain and not afraid to admit it. I don't feel 55. Though I don't know what 55 feels like, if this is it then I'm fine cause then I don't feel any different that when I was younger. Physically I know there are many I can't do from when I was younger but I know those limitations and can deal with them.

I think about the only thing good about beiing a Senior Citizen is the discounts. Those I'll take. In this day and age a discount no matter how small is worth taking. It all adds up and that will be the only time I'll admit I'm a "Senior Citizen". Beyond that? I'm 55 and counting.

GONE, GONE, GONE, HOME

It's been awhile since I've been able to post but not through any fault of mine. I've been gone. 1300 miles gone and I drove every mile of it. We left last Saturday and returned last night.
Where did I go you ask? Williamsburg, VA was the main mission where I met my oldest brother and his wife whom I haven't seen in over 6 years and whom my lovely wife, Divadeb has never met. Needless to say we did have a great time visiting. They are great people to know and I'm not saying that because he's my brother.

On the way down I got a taste of DC traffic and decided not to take this route back as we came down on a Sunday and it was bumper to bumper traffic. I hate to envision what rush hour on the weekdays are. So we took an alternate route and went way way way around DC, in fact we headed west to the mountains and took a scenic drive along the Shenadoah National Park. A 80 mile drive up in the mountains at sometime over 3500 feet above sea level. Some grand views we had by all. The 80 mile trip took a good 4 hours. No traffic to deal with here except for the occassional deer. Nice.

Didn't really hit heavy traffic until we hit CT and it was right there, just as we passed the border it was traffic. Like saying, "Welcome To CT". That didn't bother me cause then I knew I was only about 30 minutes from home. Of course this was during the dreaded "Rush Hour" and I'm not talking about the movies either.

All in all it was a nice trip be it a long trip miles wise but a nice trip. Visited some nice Rest Stops along the way also and found that 99.9% of the drivers we encountered were courteous. I didn't see anyone "flipping me off" or horns being honked at me. ....My car deserves a nice rest.

Today it's back to the routine whatever that is as I've only been home one day since school dismissed for the summer. I'm sure the daily post will become a part of that routine.

L.D.O.S=F.D.O.V

Now in order for anyone those initials to mean anything you've gotta read on.

Today I got to say goodbye to some work friends of mine. Some I know better than others and there fore will feel their absence more than others. Needless to say, I will miss them all to one extent or another. What happened you may ask? Well we have retirement, some are moving onto other postions and yet others were just outright fired. No matter how you look at it, it is a loss to us all.

I was going to get on my soap box and start meandering about the unfairness of it all, and why it can't remain the same, but I'm going to let that urge pass and quietly think about these people who are moving onto other venues in their lives and appreciate how they have touched my life.

I know there must be change otherwise life and living becomes stagnant. These people will become a memory but a pleasant memory for having known them. I wish them the best.

SINUS ME, SINUS YOU

What are sunuses? Disctionary.com says:

si·nus     n.
A depression or cavity formed by a bending or curving.

Anatomy.
A dilated channel or receptacle containing chiefly venous blood.

Any of various air-filled cavities in the bones of the skull, especially one communicating with the nostrils.

Pathology. A fistula leading from a pus-filled cavity.

Botany. A recess or indentation between lobes of a leaf or corolla.

SELTAEBS DEFINITION: A PAIN IN THE ASS!!!

I am sure I am not alone with this feeling. What purpose do they serve and I am referring to that cavity in our heads which fill up with all kinds of goodies which we affectionatly call "SNOT". Yes, it can be all colors, but you want the clear color. Any other color and you are in big trouble, cause now you have a sinus infection. Which means antibiotics, plus you feel like crap.

I still pose the questions, why, what's the purpose? All sinuses seem to do is fill up with "snot" and if the "Snot isn't removed in a timely manner on a regular basis it gets infected. Which lead me to the next question.

What is Snot? Well here comes Dictionary.com again: si·nus
n.

SELTAEBS DEFINITION - A PAIN IN THE ASS!!

So now we have two (PIA's) and what good are they for?
1. They remind you that you breathe through your nose, especially when your nose is plugged with snot and can't move.

2. They remind you that there is another exit besides the nostrils and that's the throat.

3. They remind you that you are human and therfore not infallible.

4. They remind you.........I'm sure you can come up with more.:-)

Now that brings me to the next part of this little quandry. When the "SNOT " cannot exit through you nostrils it decides to exit through your throat which then cause your throat to tickle which causes you to cough, which causes you to wake up, and usually you are sleeping as this seems to happen when you are prone.

Which is why I am writing about this stupid subject cause that is what happened to me and I am no longer prone, or asleep because of................you guessed it, my little PIA. Sinuses!!

LIKE A FISH, I'M HOOKED..........I THINK?

Hello, My name is Seltaeb and I'm a Blogger...........Okay, so I woke up this morning thinking about what I can write. I'm not thinking about what I'm going to do today (tag sales, shopping, maybe just maybe some yard work, watching a video, listening to some music (most definitly)). I'm thinking about what I'm going to write about. Before I had my other web page I pined over what I would write about as I wanted to involve family. Well my mac.com site takes care of that little worry and now I have the blogger. This is all mine, don't need to share it with anyone. I can write what I want when I want about anything I want. Does that mean I'm self-centered? Yep, very much so, but only for this page. My other web pages will be about everybody else. So I wake up thinking about what I'm going to write about. Guess what? You just read it.:-)

WHAT? ANOTHER WEB PAGE MARTHA?

HI folks, yes it's me on yet a new page. This page I'll dedicate to my meanderings and other lucid thoughts. Some may be boring as H-E- double hockey sticks but then again it may be interesting to someone somewhere somehow.
My two sons have their little blog heaven so I think it's time that Big Daddy gets into the scheme of things, maybe polish up my writing abilities and also practice my typing. They say I'm the fastest two finger typer this side of the Mississippi. Now if you believe that I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.
One thing I can tell you is that if you happen to have any old vinyl albums laying around not being played, dust them off and sell them on ebay. That's what I do in my spare time. There's money to be made in that vinyl. Now you ain't gonna get rich quick but at a buck or two at a time the money adds up. I've been doing this for the past two years and I finally hit the proverbial jackpot. Most of my albums sell for between $1.99 & $4.99. Well I had one album I had bought around 30 years ago at a Woolworths for maybe a buck. One of those budget/closeout tables. I've had it in my collection all this time and has travelled with me from ND to CT. Now came it's turn to be sold. I looked it up in the trusty Goldmine Record Album price guide and see that it was worth at least $100. Now my philosophy is that even though it is worth that much you have to have someone feel that same way also. So I figured no one will want this, so I listed it with no reserve starting at $4.99 thinking it won't sell anyhow and I can retire it back into the annals of my record collection.
Well low and behold I got a bid for $5.29, so now I'm commited. Someone it going to get a very good deal, so I pretty much forgot about it but checked on it daily. About 4 days into the seven day sale it took a drastic jump to $152.00. Well you can imagine the excitement. I told my lovely wife that this auction could top $200. The best I have ever done on an auction. Well these two guys were bidding back and forth and the bidding has climbed to $270. The last few minutes it jumped to $350 and within the last few seconds another bidder, a new bidder jumped in and won the auction for $372.00 I could not believe it. So dig out those vinyls, check the Goldmine Record album Price Guide and start making some money, works for me.

So Now What?

Ok so I finished my first blog here. Where do I go from here? My lovely wife is also trying her hand at her own blog right now even. I'm proud of her, hell, I'm proud of me for falling in love with her and marrying her and....well I think you get the picture. This will be another story at another time. and when you read it you will go............AWWWWWW Ain't that a sweet story. But I digress. where do I go from here?
I know, I know (said with excitment- imagine yourself a 7 year old who knows the answer to the teachers question)
I listen to records, I dub vinyls to CD-R format. I do this for two reasons. 1. I want to sell the records on ebay (we already had that discussion) 2. I want to sell the albums on ebay..........WAIT I already said that! 2. I want a digital copy of the music.
I dub the music onto a CD-RW DA via a free standing cdr recorder and once that is done, the dubbed songs are then imported into iTunes where they are recorded onto a cheaper CD-R for storage and the iTune digital copy is transferred into a seperate porogram called Music Match which I'm sure a lot of you are famaliar with.
Now you may ask, why? Well I'll tell you why, I'm ANAL. If I am going to go through the pain (sometimes there is pain) of recording each and every song I listen to I want to make sure there is a digital copy of it in my possession. I figure when I am done I'll have a digital catalog of somewhere near 50,000 songs. Not too shabby I would say, eh? Nuff said.
